The low pressure area formerly known as “Caloy” was spotted east of Northern Luzon on Saturday afternoon, while a frontal system and easterlies are expected to bring rains over parts of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 4 pm public weather forecast on May 16, PAGASA said the LPA was estimated at 1,000 kilometers east of northern Luzon as of 3 pm, based on all available data.

PAGASA said the frontal system is affecting extreme Northern Luzon, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.

“Possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains” may occur in these areas, the weather bureau warned.

The easterlies, meanwhile, are affecting the eastern section of Mindanao and will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Sur.

The rest of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may also expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms. PAGASA said flash floods or landslides remain possible during severe thunderstorms.

Moderate winds from the northeast to north will prevail over Northern Luzon, where coastal waters will be moderate at 1.2 to 2.5 meters. The rest of Luzon and Visayas will have light to moderate winds from the northeast to north, with slight to moderate seas at 0.6 to 1.8 meters.

Mindanao will experience light to moderate winds from the east to northeast, with slight to moderate coastal waters ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 meters.

In Metro Manila, PAGASA recorded a minimum temperature of 26.5°C at 6:30 am and a maximum temperature of 35.1°C at 3 p.m. Relative humidity ranged from 50 percent to 90 percent.
