Police Rescue Teams Race To Find Workers Trapped In Pampanga Building Collapse

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed search and rescue (SAR) teams to Angeles City, Pampanga after a building under construction collapsed over the weekend, leaving more than 20 people trapped under the rubble.

It was found that the structure gave way at around 3 a.m., with most of those believed to be trapped identified as construction workers who were at the site when the incident happened.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered the immediate mobilization of police rescue personnel, emergency responders and available assets to support ongoing operations at the collapse site.

“Every second matters in a crisis, and our duty is to act without delay, bringing every available asset to save lives, account for the missing, and support affected families on the ground,” Nartatez said.

Authorities described the site as highly unstable, making the rescue operation dangerous for responders and slowing efforts to reach those still pinned under the debris.

Nartatez said the PNP’s immediate priority is to save lives, account for the missing and assist survivors and affected families.

He also directed Pampanga police to set up an on-site first aid and welfare desk to provide immediate medical and psychosocial support to victims and their families.

The PNP said its response is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla to extend maximum assistance to those affected by the collapse.

Police personnel were also instructed to coordinate closely with local government units and other agencies to validate casualty reports and properly account for survivors, injured persons and possible fatalities.

While search and rescue operations remain the focus, the PNP said it will assist in the investigation to determine what caused the collapse.

Authorities said the probe will seek to establish the circumstances behind the incident in the interest of truth, accountability and public safety.
