Marcos Tells Law Graduates: Choose Truth, Serve the People

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called on new law graduates in Iloilo City to remain guided by integrity, fairness, and truth as they prepare to enter the legal profession.

Speaking during the 3rd Commencement Exercises of the West Visayas State University (WVSU) College of Law on Friday, Marcos urged the graduates to stay faithful to the principles that led them to pursue law and resist the temptation of convenience or shifting public opinion.

“As you face a new chapter, I hope you will stay steadfast in the principles that brought you to this calling. Do not be swayed by fleeting opinions or the allure of convenience,” Marcos said.

He reminded the graduates that the practice of law carries a deep public responsibility, especially at a time when trust in institutions is being tested.

Quoting former President Ramon Magsaysay, Marcos cited the principle that “those who have less in life should have more in law,” saying future lawyers must help ensure that the poor, vulnerable, marginalized, and powerless are not denied protection simply because they lack wealth or influence.

“May you always choose principle over convenience, truth over falsehood, and service over self-interest,” Marcos told the graduates.

The President said the country looks forward to seeing the graduates join the Philippine Bar and use their legal training to help build a nation that reflects the hopes and aspirations of the Filipino people.

Marcos also led the inauguration of the university’s new law building, which he said would provide greater opportunities for aspiring legal professionals to study, serve, and contribute to national development.

“As we open the doors of this new facility, we also open greater opportunities for aspiring legal professionals to learn, to serve, and then to contribute to our nation,” he said.

First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, a faculty member of the university, attended the event along with other government officials.

Marcos ended his message by urging the graduates to help shape a Bagong Pilipinas where the rule of law is respected, justice is accessible, and every Filipino can live with dignity and hope.
