Former journalist Jay Sonza was arrested for cyberlibel by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Quezon City by virtue of a warrant issued by the Pasay Regional Trial Court (RTC).
Based on a report from GMA Network, NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag explained that a cyberlibel case was filed against Sonza after allegedly spreading false medical records pertaining to the health condition of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Sonza said in the news report that their camp was expecting that a warrant will be issued against him and was supposed to post bail earlier that day. However, the arrest was made at around 7 pm and the warrant stated that he is not allowed to post bail.
Despite this, Sonza said that he will cooperate with the agency and undergo the proper process. He is currently under the custody of the NBI.
Sonza’s legal counsel, Atty. Mark Tolentino, posted an official statement on his Facebook account saying that they will make sure that the rights of his client, a senior citizen, will be respected by the authorities.
