Special Task Group Activated for VP Sara Impeachment Trial Security

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has activated a special task group to manage security operations for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte as authorities prepare for possible crowds and disruptions around the Senate.

PNP Chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the Special Task Group Senate Impeachment Proceedings will supervise the police force’s deployment and response measures during the constitutional proceedings.

Speaking at a press briefing in Camp Crame on Monday, Nartatez said the PNP has put in place a comprehensive security plan to ensure the trial is conducted in a safe, orderly, and peaceful manner.

“The PNP has organized the Special Task Group Senate Impeachment Proceedings to oversee all security operations,” Nartatez said.

Around 3,250 police personnel have been deployed around the Senate Complex, while 2,900 Civil Disturbance Management personnel have been placed on standby for possible contingencies.

Police have also installed additional closed-circuit television cameras in key areas as part of heightened monitoring and security preparations.

Nartatez said traffic rerouting plans have been coordinated with concerned agencies, while nearby hospitals have been identified to support immediate emergency response if needed.

“Our objective is simple—to provide a secure environment where the proceedings can move forward without disruption while respecting the rights of everyone to peacefully and lawfully express their views,” Nartatez said.

The PNP said the security measures are intended to protect the proceedings, maintain public order, and uphold the public’s right to peaceful and lawful assembly.
