The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is reinforcing safety and quality standards for school and office supplies used daily by millions of Filipino students, teachers, and workers through the implementation of the Philippine National Standards (PNS).
According to the DTI, each product covered under the standards system is governed by specific technical requirements that establish minimum benchmarks for safety, durability, performance, labeling, and overall quality. The standards are intended to ensure that products sold in the market are suitable for consumer use and meet established safety requirements.
DTI Bureau of Philippine Standards Assistant Division Chief Myra Magabilin said the standards play an important role in protecting consumers and promoting confidence in commonly used school and office items.
“These standards help ensure that the products we use every day in schools, offices, and homes are safe, durable, reliable, and suitable for consumers and users,” Magabilin said during the Consumer Care Webinar Series #312.
The DTI said the initiative forms part of its continuing efforts to safeguard consumers by promoting product quality and encouraging compliance with national standards, particularly for items widely used in educational institutions, workplaces, and households.
Through the PNS system, the agency aims to help ensure that school and office supplies available in the market meet quality expectations and provide safe, dependable performance for everyday use.
