Residents and overseas workers in Bohol and adjacent island provinces no longer need to undertake costly maritime and air travel to secure government-authenticated documents following the launch of a localized processing facility in Tagbilaran City.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) opened its newest Authentication Hub at the Alturas Mall in Tagbilaran City on Oct. 30, shifting document authentication services directly to local applicants.
Situated on the fifth floor of the commercial complex, the facility marks the 14th Authentication Hub established across the 42 DFA Consular Offices nationwide.
The localized setup eliminates the need for applicants from Bohol to travel to regional centers in Cebu or Metro Manila to obtain an apostille, directly reducing transit times and personal travel expenses for applicants.
The DFA explained that an apostille certifies the authenticity of a document’s signature, the capacity in which the signatory acted, and the identity of the seal or stamp affixed to it, enabling public documents to be recognized in foreign countries that are parties to the Apostille Convention.
In addition to local residents, the Tagbilaran facility is positioned to absorb document processing demands from neighboring island provinces, including Leyte and Masbate.
The operational expansion targets streamlining administrative requirements for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), students pursuing international education, and professionals completing documentation for foreign employment and regulatory transactions.
