The Marcos administration is pursuing the construction and completion of key sports infrastructure projects to support Filipino athletes and advance national sports development, a Palace official said on Friday.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Orchard Hotel Singapore, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said agencies including the Philippine Sports Commission and PAGCOR are partnering with the private sector to promote athlete development and welfare.
Infrastructure projects undergoing development include the Ilocos Norte Sports Institute and Research Building, designed to provide training grounds for bowling, gymnastics, badminton, sepak takraw, and other disciplines.
The government is also accelerating the construction of the General Luna Convention Center in Siargao, which will focus on water sports training and host a specialized academy.
“Again, ito ay magbibigay sa atin ng specialized water sports training facility and academy for surfing, coastal, rowing, beach sprints, and dragon boat racing,” Castro noted.
Castro also noted that additional developments are underway in the area.
“Mayroon pa na iba pang proyekto, the broader Siargao Sports Complex na siya naman magkakaroon ng facilities para sa basketball, volleyball, badminton, rubberized track oval, athlete’s dormitory and convention center,” Castro also said.
In Mindanao, the Zamboanga City Sports Complex will be built to serve as a regional training hub for the Zamboanga Peninsula.
In Luzon, an athletic bowl will be constructed in Baguio City to function as a regional training center for the Cordillera Administrative Region.
“So maraming mga proyekto na ninanais ng Pangulo na matapos. At ang nais ng Pangulo ay talagang world-class,” Castro said.
“Hindi mapipintasan at hindi mga proyektong maaaring magkaroon ng kickback ang mga taong nag-iisip na gumawa ng mga anomalya,” Castro also said.
