The Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry (Agila) Division joined the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Monday, July 6, in a nationwide simultaneous flag-raising ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award.
The commemoration, held under the theme “Dekada ng Batas, Hindi Dahas: A Decade of Law, Not Force,” took place at the Parade Ground of the 10th Infantry Division headquarters at Camp General Manuel T. Yan Sr. in Tuboran, Mawab, Davao de Oro.
Major General Alvin Luzon, commander of the 10th Infantry Division, led the ceremony along with division staff officers, post unit commanders, enlisted personnel, and civilian human resources.
As part of the nationwide observance, Luzon read the official message of AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr., who reaffirmed the importance of the 2016 Arbitral Award as a landmark affirmation of the Philippines’ maritime rights under international law.
Brawner also reiterated the AFP’s commitment to defending the country’s sovereignty through lawful, peaceful, and professional means.
“As we mark this historic milestone, let us renew our commitment to Our Seas, Our Rights, Our Future. These are more than words. They express our resolve to uphold international law, safeguard our sovereign rights, preserve peace and stability in our maritime domain, and honor the men and women who faithfully serve on the frontlines of maritime security,” Brawner said in his message.
Luzon echoed the AFP chief’s statement and underscored the Agila Division’s commitment to fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
“The commemoration of the 2016 Arbitral Award reminds us that the defense of our sovereignty is anchored on international law, professionalism, and our unwavering commitment to the Filipino people. As the Agila Division remains immersed in External Security Operations under the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Operations, we stand ready to fulfill our mandate with discipline, honor, and excellence while contributing to the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ mission of safeguarding our nation’s territorial integrity and sovereign rights,” Luzon said.
The simultaneous flag-raising ceremony forms part of the AFP’s month-long commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the 2016 Arbitral Award.
The activity aims to strengthen public awareness of the Philippines’ lawful maritime rights and highlight the military’s continuing commitment to uphold national sovereignty, protect the country’s maritime interests, and promote a rules-based international order through professionalism, restraint, and faithful service to the Filipino people.
