Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Southern Taiwan are expected to gain easier access to government services following the inauguration of the new Manila Economic and Cultural Office –Migrant Workers Office (MECO-MWO) in Kaohsiung on July 4, 2026.

Established under the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the new office reinforces the Philippine government’s commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of OFWs by bringing essential services closer to Filipino communities abroad.

Located on the 11th floor of the Grand 50 Tower in Sanmin District, the facility features expanded service areas, counseling rooms, and a training and conference room to better serve Filipino workers.

The inauguration was led by Rev. Fr. Lucio Bula and Labor Director David Des Dicang, who thanked government partners, members of the diplomatic corps, law enforcement agencies, and Filipino community leaders for their continued support.

MECO Chairperson and Resident Representative Corazon Avecilla-Padiernos described the new office as a symbol of the government’s commitment to compassionate and people-centered public service.

Department of Migrant Workers Undersecretary Felicitas Bay highlighted efforts to provide a more welcoming and dignified space for OFWs.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan, meanwhile, encouraged Filipinos in Taiwan to remain united and announced the opening of the 41st Migrant’s Brew inside the new office.

The expanded MECO-MWO Kaohsiung office is expected to strengthen the delivery of labor and welfare services, ensuring that OFWs in Southern Taiwan receive timely assistance and support closer to where they live and work.
