Gunfire echoed across Sitio Mainit, Barangay Balogo in Pasacao, Camarines Sur as Philippine and Australian forces conducted a live-fire exercise under Exercise KASANGGA 2026 on June 17.
The drill simulated a territorial defense scenario, showcasing coordination across land, air, and maritime domains, as participating units tested readiness and operational effectiveness.
The exercise also underscored interagency cooperation, with the local government unit supporting evacuation and safety measures for civilians affected by the simulated conflict scenario. Residents near the training area were temporarily relocated, while fishing activities within the exercise zone were suspended to ensure safety.
The 9th Infantry Division said exercises like KASANGGA are critical in strengthening the country’s capability to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Australian Army, meanwhile, said its participation is aimed at sharing expertise and operational experience in territorial defense, while supporting the Philippines’ shift from internal security operations toward enhanced external defense preparedness.
Exercise KASANGGA 2026 is scheduled to conclude on June 19.
