Marikina Intensifies Drainage Declogging to Curb Flooding, Health Risks

  • June 19, 2026

The Marikina City Government stepped up its drainage declogging operations across the city as part of efforts to reduce surface flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.

The operations involve clearing canals, manholes, and other drainage systems of debris and blockages to ensure the continuous flow of water and improve runoff capacity, particularly in flood-prone communities.

City officials said the initiative also forms part of public health measures, as stagnant water buildup can contribute to mosquito breeding and increase the risk of dengue and other water-related diseases.

Under the directive of Mayor Maan Teodoro, the local government continues regular maintenance and upgrading of drainage systems to strengthen flood mitigation efforts and protect residents from weather-related hazards.

The city government said routine declogging remains a key component of its disaster preparedness and environmental management strategy aimed at improving community safety and resilience during the rainy season.
