The Manila Health Department (MHD) reported 14 new dengue infections and 11 new leptospirosis cases on August 20, pushing the city’s year-to-date totals for the two vector-borne and waterborne illnesses to 2,314 and 170, respectively.
Latest surveillance data extracted from the MHD’s monitoring system as of 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday also logged three new cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) and two cases of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI). Since January 1, Manila has accumulated a total of 972 ILI and 292 SARI cases.
In contrast, health authorities recorded zero new cases of cholera, typhoid fever, or confirmed COVID-19 for the same 24-hour reporting period. Year-to-date figures for these diseases remain at 84 COVID-19 cases, 66 typhoid fever cases and three cholera cases.
City health officials emphasized that continuous monitoring of disease trends, particularly for dengue and leptospirosis, remains a top priority to curb transmission, prevent outbreaks and protect Manila residents from potential health risks.
