The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reinforced its top leadership ranks with the installation of a new Vice Chief of Staff and the promotion of key officers, underscoring the military’s push for stronger command and continuity.

Lieutenant General Rommel Roldan formally assumed his post as AFP Vice Chief of Staff, while Vice Admiral Alan Javier and Brigadier General Phillipp Alvarez Jr. were elevated to higher ranks, during a joint ceremony held at Camp Aguinaldo.

AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. presided over the event.

Before his appointment, Roldan served as Deputy Chief of Staff, where he played a role in shaping the military’s strategic and operational direction. His promotion places him at the center of AFP leadership as the organization navigates evolving security challenges.

Javier, who continues to serve as Chief Naval Staff of the Philippine Navy, and Alvarez, Commander of the AFP’s Counter-Intelligence Group, were likewise recognized for their leadership and service through their respective promotions.

Military officials said the ceremony reflects the AFP’s commitment to merit-based advancement and leadership development, as it works to strengthen its institutional backbone.

The leadership changes form part of the AFP’s broader effort to build a more responsive and capable force, aligned with its long-term vision of a “Strong AFP for a Strong Philippines.”
