President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will lead the country’s commemoration of the 128th anniversary of Philippine Independence Day on Friday amid political noise and rumors of destabilization.

The President is expected to lead the simultaneous flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the Rizal Monument in Manila. He will also host the traditional Independence Day Vin d’Honneur reception in Malacañang.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines said flag-raising ceremonies will be held simultaneously in several historic sites across the country.

These include the Rizal National Monument at Rizal Park in Manila; the Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite; the Andres Bonifacio National Monument in Caloocan City; Barasoain Church Historical Landmark in Malolos City, Bulacan; Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine in San Juan City; Museo ng Kasaysayang Panlipunan ng Pilipinas in Angeles City; and the Mausoleo de los Veteranos de la Revolucion in Manila.

Other activities lined up for the commemoration include the Parada ng Kalayaan at the Quirino Grandstand and an Independence Day concert at the Metropolitan Manila Theater, both in Manila.

The Philippines declared its independence from more than three centuries of Spanish rule on June 12, 1898.
