The commanding officer of the Republic of Korea Navy’s amphibious landing ship ROKS Cheon Ja Bong (LST-687) visited the Philippine Navy’s BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG6) on July 2, 2026, as part of continuing efforts to strengthen maritime cooperation between the two navies.

Captain Paul Michael P. Hechanova PN(GSC), commanding officer of BRP Miguel Malvar, welcomed Commander Hee-Jae Park, commanding officer of ROKS Cheon Ja Bong. The two officers, who were classmates at the Korean War College in 2017, discussed areas of mutual interest during the visit.

The Philippine Navy said the engagement highlighted the enduring friendship and strong professional partnership between the Philippine Navy and the Republic of Korea Navy.

A guided tour was also conducted for the ROKS Cheon Ja Bong delegation, showcasing the advanced capabilities of BRP Miguel Malvar, one of the Philippine Navy’s guided missile frigates built in the Republic of Korea.

The Philippine Navy said the visit also underscored BRP Miguel Malvar’s role in safeguarding the country’s maritime interests.

It added that it remains committed to deepening cooperation with partner navies through regular engagements that promote regional maritime security and mutual understanding.
