Two workers died and another was injured after an excavation site collapsed in Barangay Pamplona II, Las Piñas City, authorities said Monday.
Fire Superintendent Sonny Carlo, city fire marshal of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Las Piñas, said rescuers had recovered the bodies of the two workers who were trapped in the collapsed site.
Las Piñas City Police Assistant Chief of Police for Operations Police Lieutenant Colonel Teoson Rosarito said three other workers survived the incident. Two escaped without being trapped, while another sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Rosarito clarified that all five workers involved were Filipinos, contrary to earlier reports.
Authorities are still investigating what caused the excavation site to collapse.
