The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group reaffirmed its full support for the Baterbonia family in their pursuit of justice for victims Rene Clert and Divine, following the family’s visit to the CIDG headquarters on June 30, 2026.

CIDG Director PMGen. Robert AA Morico II personally met with the bereaved parents, Rene Sr. and Rovelyn, and their eldest son Ruveyan. The family was accompanied by their two female legal counsels.

During the meeting, CIDG officials presented the comprehensive timeline of the tragic June 8 incident, the facts established by investigators, and the specific charges recommended in connection with the case.

The CIDG said the recommended charges include violations of Republic Act No. 11053, or the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018; homicide under Article 249 of the Revised Penal Code; and reckless imprudence resulting in homicide under Article 365 of the same code.

The complaints were recommended against the resigned Ateneo men’s basketball team head coach Thomas Anthony “Tab” Baldwin and 11 others.

The criminal complaints have already been referred to the Department of Justice for case build-up and evaluation in accordance with DOJ Circular No. 20.

Morico said the meeting with the Baterbonia family served two key purposes.

“The purpose of the meeting is two things: one, to inform them of the result of our investigation because they have the right to know. Second is to assure them that in all stages ng prosecution, if this one goes to trial, the CIDG will be there to continuously follow up this case, kasi you know ang trial matagal po yan,” the Director said.

To assure the family of a thorough case build-up, CIDG officials introduced members of the Command Group, top intelligence and investigation officers, and the specialized legal teams handling the case.

The Baterbonia couple was also informed that PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. had deployed a dedicated team of PNP lawyers to closely assist and oversee the investigative process.

The Baterbonia family thanked the PNP and CIDG for what they described as an exhaustive investigation, transparency, compassion, and support, saying these gave them hope and comfort as they continue to seek justice for Rene Clert and Divine.
