Thousands of visitors boarded the BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG6) during the traditional Open Ship Day of the Rim of the Pacific Exercise 2026 on June 27, giving base personnel and RIMPAC partner nation participants a closer look at one of the Philippine Navy’s prized assets.

During the event, visitors were given exclusive access to selected areas of the ship, where FFG6 crew members stood watch at various stations to answer technical questions and share insights about life on board.

Local families and fellow service members also took part in exchanges of custom ship patches and challenge coins, while others purchased the ship’s personalized merchandise and Filipino products offered for sale.

The Open Ship Day also provided an opportunity to showcase Filipino hospitality and strengthen ties with Filipinos in Hawaii, foreign visitors, and partner nations, while highlighting the professionalism and dedication of the officers and sailors of the Philippine Navy.

At the same time, FFG6 officers and sailors were able to visit other participating naval vessels, where they gained firsthand insight into their capabilities, exchanged professional knowledge with their counterparts, and learned about the traditions and cultures of other RIMPAC participating ships.

Among the most notable vessels they visited were the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2), and the Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Chosin (CG 65).

The Philippine Navy reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening friendship, enhancing cooperative relationships, and fostering camaraderie with partner navies and the local community, while underscoring its enduring dedication to serving the Filipino people at home and abroad.
