PH, US Forces Cap Major Readiness Drill in Nueva Ecija

Coalition forces have concluded the Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center-Exportable or JPMRC-X training rotation, a major component of Exercise Salaknib 2026 aimed at strengthening combined military readiness in the Indo-Pacific region.

Army Chief Lt. Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete underscored the importance of clear and effective communication in multilateral military operations during the outbrief held at Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija, on May 21.

Nafarrete said communication played a decisive role in the success of the JPMRC-X drills, which brought together Philippine, United States, and partner forces in realistic training scenarios.

The JPMRC-X exercise served as the highlight of Exercise Salaknib Phase 2, which runs from May to June 2026. It tested the ability of coalition forces to rapidly deploy, coordinate, and integrate capabilities in securing key terrain in a contested archipelagic environment.

The Army chief also acknowledged the challenging conditions faced by participating troops, particularly foreign counterparts who had to adjust to the country’s hot climate.

“We all know that the weather is really here in the Philippines. It is really, really hot,” Nafarrete said, recognizing the adjustment made by troops from temperate countries.

He also emphasized the value of learning from each participating nation’s operational approach and best practices, saying the exercise provided an opportunity for troops to sharpen interoperability and improve combined mission execution.

“I commend all participating units, exercise planners, support personnel, and training management elements for your hard work, professionalism, and commitment to mission accomplishment,” Nafarrete said.

As part of Exercise Salaknib Phase 2, JPMRC-X integrated the Philippine Army, US Army Pacific, and partner forces in field scenarios designed to enhance combined operational effectiveness, refine multi-domain tactics, and strengthen regional readiness.

The training rotation reinforced the role of Salaknib as a platform for improving interoperability among allies and partners operating in complex security environments across the Indo-Pacific.
