Panglima Estino in Sulu has been formally declared a rido-free, gun-free, and peace-centered community, marking a major peace milestone in a province long working to move beyond conflict and toward sustained development.

The municipality also achieved Stable Internal Peace and Security status during a ceremonial program attended by Sulu Gov. Abdusakur A. Tan II, local officials, security leaders, religious representatives, and community stakeholders.

The declaration affirms the town’s commitment to end clan feuds, prevent the spread of loose firearms, and preserve a safer environment where families, communities, and local institutions can pursue progress without the threat of violence.

Maj. Gen. Leonardo I. Peña, commander of the 11th Infantry “Alakdan” Division and Joint Task Force Orion, commended the local government, community leaders, and security forces for working together to strengthen peace and stability in Panglima Estino.

Peña said the declaration reflected the success of sustained collaboration among stakeholders and showed Sulu’s continuing transformation from a province once associated with conflict into one now recognized for its improving peace and security situation.

Tan also lauded the people of Panglima Estino for their unity, cooperation, and commitment to peace. He stressed the need to sustain harmony and strengthen partnerships to protect the gains already achieved.

The ceremony featured the unveiling of the official peace declaration marker, the signing of a peace covenant, and a symbolic dove release representing unity, reconciliation, and lasting peace for the people of Panglima Estino.

The declaration follows similar peace milestones in other municipalities across Sulu, reinforcing the province’s broader campaign against rido and loose firearms.

Among those present were Panglima Estino Mayor Benshar S. Estino, Vice Mayor Morsid M. Estino, 1102nd Infantry Brigade Deputy Brigade Commander Col. Alex H. Gagula, Sulu Police Provincial Office Deputy Provincial Director for Operations PLt. Col. Kris Conrad M. Gutierrez, and 21st Infantry Battalion Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Ronald A. Borras.

Officials said the milestone stands as another testament to the continuing efforts of the government, security sector, and local communities to advance peace, security, and inclusive development across Sulu.
