The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has urged Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) members gathered at the People Power Monument along EDSA to exercise their rights responsibly as the group’s “emergency rally” continued to affect traffic and security operations in Quezon City.
In a statement, the DILG said it respects every Filipino’s constitutional right to peaceful assembly and free expression, but stressed that participants must also uphold the rule of law and cooperate with authorities.
The department said it has directed the Philippine National Police to exercise maximum tolerance while implementing security and traffic management measures to keep the activity peaceful, orderly, and safe for the public.
“The DILG calls on all participants and stakeholders to exercise their rights responsibly, uphold the rule of law, and cooperate with authorities throughout the activity,” the department said.
It added that it remains committed to protecting public safety while upholding constitutional freedoms.
