The Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed its disaster response units on alert as Typhoon Domeng intensified and continued to threaten parts of Northern Luzon.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. directed police units in affected regions to prepare for possible emergencies and coordinate closely with local government units.
“The safety and welfare of all our kababayan in the affected areas are always the priority. Our personnel and resources on the ground were already mobilized for this purpose,” Nartatez said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) earlier reported that Domeng intensified into a typhoon on Saturday afternoon and was last monitored east of Northern Luzon. It was moving northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour.
Nartatez said police offices in areas expected to feel the effects of the typhoon were instructed to remain on alert and respond immediately to calls for assistance.
“Police offices in places which will be hit by Domeng are tasked to be on alert for its possible effects and to immediately respond to requests and assistance of the people in coordination with the local government units,” he said.
Police units are on standby for possible evacuation assistance, rescue operations, and other emergency response efforts.
The PNP also advised the public to remain vigilant, monitor official advisories, and follow instructions from local authorities.
“We also advise the public to be cautious, vigilant, and heed the call of local authorities to ensure safety,” Nartatez said.
The police chief said the PNP is also preparing for other weather disturbances during the habagat season to ensure quick response and continuous public safety support in affected communities.
