Executive Secretary Ralph Recto underscored the need for balanced and practical food industry policies during a recent meeting with executives of Food Industry Asia.
During the discussion, Recto stressed that while protecting public health remains a priority, government regulations should also consider their impact on food producers, businesses, and consumers.
He emphasized the importance of adopting policies that are effective yet affordable, particularly at a time when industries are facing economic pressures linked to the continuing global energy crisis.
The meeting also tackled concerns over food supply stability and the need for stronger regional coordination to prevent disruptions in supply chains, especially amid tensions and instability in the Middle East.
Food Industry Asia officials, led by chief executive officer Matt Kovac, expressed optimism about the Philippines’ potential to play a larger role in facilitating food trade within the ASEAN region.
Founded in 2010, Food Industry Asia is a Singapore-based non-profit organization composed of leading multinational food and beverage companies operating across Asia.
