The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has ordered the sanitation, disinfection, and pest control of MRT-3 train sets after a viral social media post showed small cockroaches inside a train car.
The post quickly circulated online and raised concerns among commuters about cleanliness and maintenance inside the rail system.
Transportation officials said immediate action was taken after the complaint was brought to the attention of authorities.
“The concerned train set underwent immediate inspection and disinfection by the maintenance team,” DOTr acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez said in earlier statements regarding MRT operations.
Maintenance teams were instructed to conduct thorough cleaning and pest control measures across affected train sets.
Officials also ordered inspections to ensure that sanitation standards are properly maintained in the rail system.
The MRT-3 is one of Metro Manila’s busiest rail lines, serving thousands of commuters daily.
Transportation authorities said maintaining proper hygiene and cleanliness inside trains is essential for commuter safety.
Officials said the agency remains committed to improving the quality of public transportation services.
