The Department of Energy (DOE) has held exploratory talks with officials from the Russian Federation Embassy on potential cooperation in coal supply as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s energy security.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Russian Embassy led by Ambassador Marat Pavlov, according to the DOE.
The agency said the discussions align with its mandate to diversify energy sources and ensure a stable, reliable, and secure energy supply for the Philippines.
During the meeting, both sides discussed possible areas of cooperation, including the technical specifications of coal products, potential supply arrangements, and pricing mechanisms.
The DOE emphasized that it remains open to engaging with various potential suppliers that can support the country’s energy requirements under fair and mutually beneficial arrangements.
The discussions formed part of initial exchanges aimed at identifying opportunities for future cooperation.
