Filipino Culinary Students Gain Korea Internships, Job Opportunities Through Enderun-KFSIA Deal

Filipino culinary and hospitality students are gaining a more direct route into South Korea’s expanding food service industry following a new partnership between Enderun Colleges and a major Korean restaurant industry organization.

Enderun Colleges signed a Memorandum of Understanding on July 29, 2026 with the Chungnam Provincial Branch of the Korea Federation of Korean Restaurants, also known as the Korea Food Service Industry Association or KFSIA. The agreement was signed at Enderun’s Taguig campus by Chungnam branch president Yoon Seok-Yong and Enderun Chief Operating Officer Daniel Perez.

The partnership is designed to go beyond classroom exchanges. It covers student internships, educational visits to South Korea, faculty engagement, culinary research, product development, entrepreneurship and broader industry cooperation.

It also creates potential employment pathways in South Korea for qualified Enderun graduates, giving Filipino students exposure not only to Korean cuisine but also to the business systems behind one of Asia’s most internationally successful food sectors.

A growing global market

The agreement comes as Korean food continues to expand its international reach.

South Korea’s food exports reached a record $13.62 billion in 2025, marking a tenth consecutive year of growth, according to figures cited in the Enderun feature. Food products alone exceeded $10 billion for the first time.

The growth of Korean dishes and food brands overseas has been accompanied by the expansion of the country’s restaurant and food service industry. Korean barbecue, kimchi, tteokbokki, kimbap and instant noodles have become increasingly familiar to consumers well beyond South Korea.

For Filipino students, however, the value of the partnership lies not simply in learning how Korean dishes are prepared.

It offers an opportunity to understand how restaurants are managed, how food businesses maintain quality standards, how supply chains operate and how culinary concepts are developed and scaled for international markets.

The original partnership brief notes that Korean restaurant chains are expanding rapidly, supported by industry systems and institutions that have helped bring Korean cuisine to overseas markets.

Lessons beyond Korean cuisine

For aspiring chefs, restaurateurs and hospitality managers, that industry exposure can have applications well beyond Korean food.

Students who understand how a successful foreign food sector organizes its operations, branding, supply chains and expansion strategies may eventually apply those lessons to Filipino restaurants, international hospitality businesses or their own entrepreneurial ventures.

That makes the partnership relevant not only to students hoping to work in South Korea but also to those planning careers in restaurant management, food entrepreneurship or global hospitality.

The agreement builds on Enderun Colleges’ existing international internship and institutional partnerships, with the school seeking to prepare graduates for careers in both the Philippine and international hospitality industries.
