PNP Mobilizes Disaster Response as Mayon Ashfall Prompts Evacuations in Albay

“We have mobilized sufficient personnel and resources to assist in disaster response and ensure maximum visibility in affected communities. We will deploy additional personnel if needed.”

With this assurance, PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said the Philippine National Police has intensified its operations in Albay as ashfall from Mayon Volcano triggered evacuations and heightened public safety concerns.

Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) immediately deployed personnel to assist affected communities, secure evacuation areas, and support local authorities as volcanic activity escalated.

Ashfall has been reported in several towns surrounding Mayon Volcano, prompting local government units to raise alert levels due to health risks and the possibility of further eruptions. Preemptive evacuations have been carried out, particularly in areas within the danger zone.

The PNP said it is closely coordinating with local governments and disaster response agencies to ensure timely assistance. Police commanders have been directed to prioritize public safety, enforce restricted zones, and remain on heightened alert.

“We are coordinating closely with local government units and disaster response agencies to provide timely and efficient support on the ground,” Nartatez said.

Police units have also distributed face masks to residents and advised the public to limit outdoor exposure.

“We strongly advise the public to stay indoors and avoid going out unless absolutely necessary,” he added.

Additional personnel have been deployed to high-risk barangays, while checkpoints and patrols have been reinforced to prevent security risks in evacuated areas. Authorities are also strictly enforcing the no-entry policy within the six-kilometer permanent danger zone.

“Our police presence is meant to reassure communities that their safety and security remain our top priority even as they evacuate,” Nartatez said.
