PH, Korea, Singapore Navies Conduct Coordinated Leapfrog Maneuver in RIMPAC 2026 Group Sail

The Philippine Navy, alongside counterparts from Singapore and South Korea, executed a coordinated leapfrog maneuver during a multinational group sail on June 17, 2026, as part of preparations for the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise 2026.

Participating vessels included the Philippine Navy’s BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-6), the Republic of Singapore Navy’s RSS Steadfast (FFG-70), and the Republic of Korea Navy’s ROKS Cheon Ja Bong (LST-687).

The maneuver involved alternating lead roles among the ships, with each vessel taking turns as guide and maneuvering ship while maintaining a close formation at a safe distance of approximately 50 yards.

According to naval officials, the exercise tested ship-handling precision, formation control, and inter-ship communication procedures, while reinforcing seamanship skills in a multinational operational environment.

The activity forms part of ongoing naval cooperation and pre-RIMPAC training aimed at improving interoperability among participating maritime forces.

The Philippine Navy said the exercise underscores continued efforts to strengthen partnerships with like-minded navies and enhance readiness in protecting maritime interests in the region.
