PH Holds First School Active Shooter Drill After Tacloban Killings

The Philippine National Police conducted the country’s first school active shooter drill at Manila Science High School on Wednesday, July 15, following a deadly campus shooting in Tacloban City that killed three students.

Held as part of the National Safe Schools Summit, the exercise simulated an armed intruder entering the campus and tested the coordinated response of police, school personnel, students and local government officials.

Participants practiced lockdown procedures, evacuation and other emergency measures designed to protect students and personnel during an active threat.

Authorities said the drill aims to strengthen school preparedness and equip students, teachers and other personnel with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively to critical incidents.

The initiative followed the June 22 shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, which intensified calls for tighter campus security and stronger emergency response protocols in schools nationwide.
