One Piece Announces Films God Valley for 2027, BAAD for 2029

After years without a new theatrical announcement, One Piece fans now have two films to look forward to.

ONE PIECE FILM GOD VALLEY will open in Japan in summer 2027, while ONE PIECE FILM BAAD is scheduled for 2029. The projects were announced during ONE PIECE DAY ’26 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba.

For longtime fans, the bigger surprise is the name God Valley.

The God Valley Incident occupies a major place in One Piece lore, connecting some of the most important figures from the era before Monkey D. Luffy began his journey. The event took place 38 years before the main story and involved Gol D. Roger, Monkey D. Garp and the Rocks Pirates led by Rocks D. Xebec.

Roger would become the Pirate King whose execution helped trigger the Great Pirate Era, while Garp became one of the Marines’ legendary figures and is also Luffy’s grandfather. The Rocks Pirates included figures who would later emerge among the world’s most powerful pirates.

Eiichiro Oda gradually revealed details about God Valley in the manga, turning it into one of the series’ enduring historical mysteries. Its selection for a theatrical film therefore raises a major question for fans: how much of that history will finally be shown?

The God Valley Incident itself is canon, but that does not necessarily mean every element of the movie will be part of manga continuity.

Previous One Piece films have incorporated characters and concepts tied to the manga without making their entire stories canon. One Piece Film: Red, for instance, prominently featured Shanks and introduced Uta, but its full storyline is not treated as a manga arc.

For now, God Valley is best described as a theatrical film centered on a canonical event, with its exact relationship to the manga yet to be disclosed.

The timing is also significant. One Piece began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in July 1997, putting God Valley in theaters during the manga’s 30th anniversary in 2027.

It will also arrive five years after One Piece Film: Red, which opened in Japan in August 2022 and became the franchise’s biggest theatrical success.

Far less is known about ONE PIECE FILM BAAD.

The second movie is scheduled for 2029, marking 30 years since the One Piece television anime began broadcasting in Japan in October 1999.

Oda drew the BAAD title image revealed with the announcement, but no official synopsis has been released. Its characters, setting and possible connection to God Valley remain unknown, as does the meaning behind its title.

The two movies arrive as One Piece continues to expand beyond the manga and television anime, with Netflix’s live-action adaptation bringing the franchise to an even wider international audience.

For fans, the announcements end the wait that followed Film: Red while opening another round of questions.

ONE PIECE FILM GOD VALLEY arrives in summer 2027 with one of the manga’s most important historical events at its center. ONE PIECE FILM BAAD follows in 2029, with most of its story still under wraps.
