More than 1.1 million minimum wage earners in Metro Manila will receive an additional P85 in their daily pay, in what the Department of Labor and Employment described as the largest single wage adjustment ever approved in the National Capital Region.
Labor Secretary Francis N. Tolentino announced the increase on Monday during a Pulong Talakayan at the Malabon Central Public Market, saying the adjustment was in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the action of the National Wages and Productivity Commission.
DOLE said the P85 increase will benefit more than 1.1 million minimum wage earners across Metro Manila and marks the biggest one-time wage hike ever granted in the region.
The announcement was made during Tolentino’s dialogue with workers and market stakeholders as part of the agency’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare and purchasing power.
