Authorities seized an estimated P34 million worth of suspected shabu and arrested a jeepney dispatcher in a coordinated anti-drug operation in Zamboanga City, marking another major blow to the government’s campaign against illegal narcotics.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office 9 led the buy-bust operation on April 24 at around 6:10 p.m. in Barangay Culianan, with support from regional enforcement teams, the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Office, the Philippine Air Force, the Philippine Navy, and the Zamboanga City Police Office.

The suspect, identified only as “Randy,” 35, married, and working as a jeepney dispatcher, was arrested during the operation. He is a resident of Talon-Talon in the same city.

Operatives recovered five vacuum-sealed plastic packs containing white crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu. The confiscated drugs weighed about five kilograms and had an estimated value of P34 million. Authorities also seized non-drug items, including bundles of boodle money used in the operation and an eco bag.

An inventory of the seized evidence was conducted at the scene in the presence of required witnesses, including a barangay official and a media representative, in compliance with standard procedures.

The suspect will face charges for violating Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which cover the sale and possession of illegal drugs.

PDEA officials said the operation highlights ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks in the region, adding that coordination among law enforcement agencies remains key to sustaining momentum against illegal drug activities. The agency also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
