President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is looking for a trustworthy, patriotic, God-fearing, and hardworking officer who puts the country’s welfare first as the next chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Marcos has yet to name the successor of AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr., who is set to retire on July 20.
Castro said she has not seen any shortlist for the next military chief.
“Unang-una po, of course, mapagkakatiwalaan, maka-bayan, maka-Diyos at masipag, at ang iniisip ay kapakanan ng bayan (First and foremost, of course, they must be trustworthy, patriotic, God-fearing, and hardworking, and think of the welfare of the nation),” Castro said when asked what qualities the President is considering in choosing the next commander of the military.
Brawner, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Makatao Class of 1989, was appointed as the AFP’s 60th chief of staff.
