K-pop Boy group TEMPEST disbands after four years together

After four years of making music and performing together, K-pop boy group TEMPEST is officially ending its group activities.

The announcement came on Tuesday, October 20, when YH Entertainment confirmed that the six-member act would no longer continue promotions as a group following discussions between the agency and its artists.

The news also comes as two members prepare for major changes in their careers. Hyuk is set to enlist in the South Korean military on October 26, while leader LEW will leave YH Entertainment when his contract expires on November 1.

Meanwhile, Hanbin, Hyeongseop, Eunchan, and Taerae will remain with the agency to pursue individual activities.

YH Entertainment has yet to announce whether TEMPEST will hold a farewell event or release any final music before officially going their separate ways.

TEMPEST made its debut on March 2, 2022, with the mini-album It’s ME, It’s WE, led by the upbeat title track “Bad News.”

The group initially debuted with seven members: Hanbin, Hyeongseop, Hyuk, LEW, Hwarang, Eunchan, and Taerae.

Their arrival drew interest from K-pop fans, particularly those familiar with Hyeongseop and LEW from their appearances on the survival competition Produce 101 Season 2.

Over the next few years, TEMPEST built its discography with songs such as “Can’t Stop Shining,” “Dragon,” and “Vroom Vroom.” The latter became one of the group’s notable releases, earning music-show wins in 2023.

Their activities eventually took them beyond South Korea, including a Japanese debut in 2024 and performances for international audiences.

TEMPEST also joined Mnet’s Road to Kingdom: ACE OF ACE in 2024, competing alongside other boy groups in a series of performance challenges.

Despite the competitive nature of the K-pop industry, the group continued releasing music and meeting fans overseas, including through activities in 2025 and early 2026.

TEMPEST had already experienced a significant change in August 2024, when Hwarang officially left the group following the termination of his contract with YH Entertainment.

His departure came months after he suspended activities earlier that year.

The remaining six members continued working together, releasing new material and maintaining their presence in the K-pop scene.

This time, however, the group’s activities are coming to an end rather than continuing with another lineup.

YH Entertainment has not disclosed further details about the discussions that led to the decision.

With TEMPEST’s group promotions coming to a close, attention now turns to what each member will do next.

Hyuk will begin his mandatory military service on October 26. The agency has asked fans not to visit the enlistment location and confirmed that there will be no separate public farewell ceremony.

LEW, who has served as the group’s leader since its debut, will officially part ways with YH Entertainment on November 1. His next career move has not yet been announced.

For Hanbin, Hyeongseop, Eunchan, and Taerae, the agency said it would continue supporting their individual endeavors. Details of their upcoming projects have yet to be released.

The company also thanked fans for supporting TEMPEST throughout the group’s journey.

Although the announcement brings an end to TEMPEST’s activities as a group, YH Entertainment has not explicitly ruled out the possibility of the members reuniting someday.

For now, their four years together leave behind a collection of songs, stage performances, and memories shared with their fans, known as iE.

What began with “Bad News” in 2022 has now reached its final chapter as TEMPEST’s members prepare to take on separate paths.
