Food and water assistance reached several affected areas in General Santos City after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake damaged buildings, schools, and other structures in the city.

Local relief teams from TINGOG Center Tacurong and TINGOG Center General Santos were deployed on Monday, June 8, to provide immediate assistance to residents and frontline workers as rescue, clearing, and damage assessment operations continued.

A total of 300 relief packs containing ready-to-eat food and bottled water were distributed during the initial response to help address urgent needs in the first critical hours after the earthquake.

The relief operation covered Sarangani Bay Specialists Medical Center and R.O. Diagan Cooperative Hospital, where aid was given to patients, health workers, and other affected individuals.

Ready-to-eat meals were also delivered to Bureau of Fire Protection personnel and Barangay Dadiangas East officials who remained on duty as response efforts continued on the ground.

TINGOG said the same-day deployment was meant to ensure that assistance quickly reached affected residents, responders, and frontline personnel.

“Ang mahalaga ngayon ay mabilis, maayos, at tuloy-tuloy ang pagtugon. Kasama ang ating local partners at responders, patuloy ang TINGOG sa pakikinig at pagsisilbi sa mga kababayan nating naapektuhan ng lindol,” the group said.

Relief operations were set to continue Tuesday, June 9, in hospitals and other affected communities in General Santos City.

Local teams were also preparing additional relief packs for distribution while continuing coordination with partners on the ground.
