Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrested a 45-year-old businessman after he allegedly threatened residents with firearms and damaged vehicles during a disturbance in Barangay Amihan, Quezon City.

In a statement released Friday, the QCPD said the suspect, identified only as alias “Jeffrey,” was apprehended by operatives of the Anonas Police Station during a follow-up operation at around 7 a.m. on May 15.

According to police, the incident began at around 12:50 a.m. while several residents were repainting a basketball court in the barangay.

Authorities said the suspect allegedly arrived carrying a short firearm and a long firearm before confronting the group and making threatening remarks that caused alarm among residents.

Police said the suspect also allegedly hurled several objects, including a head statue, an empty gas tank, a wooden base, and dumbbell plates, damaging a Toyota Hi-Ace and another vehicle owned by the complainants.

The incident was initially reported to barangay officials before being referred to Police Station 9, prompting authorities to launch a follow-up operation.

The suspect was later arrested without further incident and voluntarily surrendered the firearms found in his possession.

Recovered from him were a 9mm Norinco pistol loaded with five live rounds of ammunition, a submachine gun replica, and several objects allegedly used during the confrontation.

The suspect is set to face complaints for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, as well as alarms and scandals, malicious mischief, and grave threats under the Revised Penal Code.

QCPD director Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio said police would continue responding aggressively to incidents that threaten public safety.

“The QCPD remains committed to responding swiftly to incidents that threaten public safety and to maintaining peace and order within the community,” Silvio said.

He also urged the public to immediately report similar incidents through E911 or the Quezon City Helpline 122.
