The Land Transportation Office has revoked for two years the driver’s license of a motorist involved in a viral road rage incident in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, where another rider was allegedly stabbed with a screwdriver.
In a statement Tuesday, the LTO said the penalty was imposed after its investigation found the driver administratively liable for being an “Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.”
The case stemmed from a confrontation between two motorcycle riders, which escalated into an alleged attack using a screwdriver.
The LTO said it issued a show-cause order against the respondent on May 9, directing him to explain why he should not be held liable. He was also ordered to appear before the agency’s Intelligence and Investigation Division on May 14 for a formal hearing.
While the investigation was ongoing, the LTO suspended the respondent’s license for 90 days and directed him to surrender it. The driver complied during the hearing.
After the proceedings, the agency revoked his driver’s license for two years.
“Based on the decision of the agency, the driver is imposed with revocation of driver’s license for two years over violation of provision of Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle,” the LTO said.
LTO Acting Chief Markus Lacanilao said violent and reckless conduct has no place on the road.
“Improper behavior of a motorist has no place on the road. Any motorist who will show a behavior that can endanger others will be held liable under the law and guidelines of the LTO,” Lacanilao said.
