MMDA Converts Former Cavite Landfill Into Nature Park

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has transformed a former sanitary landfill in Carmona, Cavite, into an eco-friendly public park as part of its urban renewal and environmental protection initiatives.

Located in Barangay Lantic, the former dumpsite has been redeveloped into the MMDA Nature Park, where visitors may exercise, hold picnics and enjoy the surrounding green spaces.

The project was carried out under the leadership of MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes and supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to develop more accessible and sustainable public spaces.

The park features a KADIWA ng Bayan Store that offers affordable agricultural products under the KADIWA ng Pangulo Program.

It also includes a bamboo pavilion and a seedling nursery designed to propagate bamboo for environmental projects.

The MMDA said the facilities support its sustainability efforts and promote the use of bamboo as a nature-based measure for flood mitigation.

The Disaster Preparedness Training Center is also located within the park. The facility will host programs on disaster readiness, emergency response and rescue operations for various stakeholders.

The agency said the project demonstrates how a former landfill can be converted into a safe, productive and sustainable public space that supports environmental conservation, disaster resilience and community well-being.
