THE Philippine Navy’s BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-06) led a coordinated patrol and systems readiness check with the Philippine Coast Guard’s BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301) and other Navy units on June 5, 2026, as the Philippine contingent prepared for its participation in the Rim of the Pacific Exercise 2026 in Hawaii.
The activity was conducted by Naval Task Group 84 aboard the BRP Miguel Malvar in coordination with the BRP Gabriela Silang and units under Naval Forces Southern Luzon.
The Navy said the patrol aimed to test operational systems and procedures ahead of RIMPAC 2026 while strengthening maritime domain awareness.
During the transit through the Philippine area of operations, the BRP Miguel Malvar and BRP Gabriela Silang conducted communications checks and coordinated with shore-based, air, and surface units for maritime patrol and situational awareness operations.
Capt. Ryan Bakabak PN(GSC), commander of Naval Task Group 84, said the activity showed the Philippine Navy’s commitment to ensuring that all participating units are ready for the major international exercise.
“This activity ensures that all members of both the Philippine Navy and Philippine Coast Guard contingent are well prepared and operationally ready for RIMPAC 2026,” Bakabak said.
The BRP Gabriela Silang’s participation also marks the Philippine Coast Guard contingent’s maiden participation in the Hawaii-based exercise.
