The Department of Energy (DOE) has met with KEPCO Philippines Holdings, Inc. to discuss possible cooperation on major energy initiatives, including nuclear energy development and the ASEAN Power Grid.

In a statement, the DOE said Energy Secretary Sharon Garin led the meeting with KEPCO Philippines officials headed by its President and CEO Jeon Yong Su. The discussions focused on potential areas of collaboration that could support the Philippines’ push for a cleaner, more secure, and more resilient energy future.

According to the DOE, the meeting covered possible cooperation in advancing regional energy connectivity through the ASEAN Power Grid, a regional initiative aimed at strengthening power interconnection among Southeast Asian countries.

The agency said both sides also discussed clean energy development, long-term energy security, and energy resiliency, as the Philippines continues to pursue measures to modernize its power sector and ensure stable supply for consumers and industries.

The talks also included the proposed Green Energy Island Pilot Project and other nuclear-related initiatives, which form part of broader discussions on possible technologies and partnerships to support the country’s energy transition.

The DOE said the engagement built on KEPCO’s experience in operating and maintaining power facilities in the Philippines. Both parties explored possible strategic partnerships that may help advance the continued development and modernization of the Philippine energy sector.

The meeting comes as the government seeks to diversify the country’s energy mix, expand clean energy options, and strengthen cooperation with regional and international partners in addressing future energy demand.
