Makati City has achieved a major milestone in its anti-illegal drug campaign after all of its 23 barangays were officially declared drug-free or drug-cleared under the Barangay Drug Clearing Program.
In a statement, the City Government of Makati said the Makati Anti-Drug Abuse Council hosted the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing Program for the validation and deliberation of barangays in the National Capital Region.
The proceedings included the successful declaration of Barangay Guadalupe Viejo as drug-cleared, completing the city’s list of 23 barangays that have been classified as drug-free or drug-cleared.
According to the Makati City government, the achievement brings the city closer to its goal of being declared a Drug-Cleared City. It said the milestone reflects Makati’s sustained, coordinated, and evidence-based efforts to combat illegal drugs while promoting safer and healthier communities for residents.
The city also underscored the role of local agencies and partner institutions in ensuring that barangays comply with the standards required under the clearing program.
The Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing, chaired by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency regional director, is composed of representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, Department of Health, and local government units.
The committee is responsible for validating and assessing barangays under the Barangay Drug Clearing Program to ensure that declarations are based on proper evaluation and compliance with program requirements.
With Barangay Guadalupe Viejo now added to the list of cleared areas, Makati is moving closer to securing a citywide drug-cleared status.
