Eight Reported Dead After Powerful Sarangani Quake, OCD Says

Eight people were reported killed following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Sarangani on Monday morning, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said.

OCD deputy spokesman Diego Mariano said the reported fatalities came from Davao Occidental with three, General Santos City with three, and South Cotabato with two.

Mariano stressed that the figures remain subject to validation by local disaster risk reduction and management councils (LDRRMCs).

“The following number of reported dead from LDRRMCs are still for validation,” Mariano said.

The OCD earlier reported major damage to infrastructure following the powerful quake, but said authorities have yet to determine the full extent of destruction.

“For damaged infra buildings, we don’t have the figures yet,” Mariano said.
