Several members of the House of Representatives on Sunday joined Catholic faithful at the EDSA Shrine for a Mass for Peace and Accountability, a day before the Senate is expected to formally take up the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Rev. Teodoro Bacani Jr. served as the main presider of the Sunday morning Mass, which drew lawmakers and other attendees calling for peace, accountability, and respect for constitutional processes.
Among the House members present were Akbayan Party-list Rep. Percival Cendaña, Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima, Manila 2nd District Rep. Joel Chua, Iloilo 3rd District Rep. Lorenz Defensor, Tingog Party-list Rep. Jude Acidre, and Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon.
De Lima, Chua, Defensor, and Ridon are part of the 11-member House prosecution team, earlier elected by the chamber to represent it in the Senate impeachment trial of Duterte.
Their attendance came as political attention shifted to the Senate, which is set to act as an impeachment court in proceedings that could determine the vice president’s accountability under the Constitution.
