The House of Representatives closed the First Regular Session of the 20th Congress with more than 160 measures transmitted to the Senate, including priority proposals on governance, social protection, digital safety, public services and economic reform.
The chamber also approved on third and final reading 26 of the 52 priority measures identified by the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council, representing half of the administration’s LEDAC agenda in the House.
Among the major bills advanced were the proposed National Land Use Act, Digital Payments Act, Department of Water Resources Act, strengthened Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, Right to Information Act, Anti-Political Dynasty Act, Anti-Fake News and Disinformation Act, and measures seeking to protect children from online abuse and exploitation.
Lawmakers also worked on measures covering energy reform, education, Universal Health Care, cybersecurity, anti-corruption, rice tariffication, party-list reform and the proposed KALINGA Act, which seeks to create a national emergency response framework for economic and energy-related crises.
In his closing speech, Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III said the House prioritized legislation intended to improve public services, strengthen institutions and respond to the needs of Filipino families.
“Mula sa unang araw ng sesyon, iisa ang ating naging direksyon: unahin ang interes ng sambayanang Pilipino,” Dy said.
The Speaker said the approved measures were the product of plenary debates, committee hearings, consultations, technical working group meetings and deliberations conducted throughout the session.
He said the bills passed by the House seek to make government services faster and more transparent, move long-delayed political reforms, make the internet safer for children and other users, strengthen public institutions and expand access to education.
Dy also said the chamber’s legislative work was meant to support an economy that is more prepared for future challenges and more responsive to ordinary Filipinos.
The House adjourned its First Regular Session on Wednesday. It is scheduled to reconvene on July 27 for the opening of the Second Regular Session of the 20th Congress, which will coincide with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address before a joint session of Congress.
