More than eight kilograms of suspected shabu, with an estimated value of P56.6 million, were intercepted by Bureau of Customs (BOC) and Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 personnel from two Filipino passengers who arrived from Cambodia today.

The confiscated white crystalline substance, suspected to be methamphetamine hydrochloride  or “shabu,” was packed in improvised pouches made of carbon paper and packaging tape, and found inside two luggages owned by the suspects.

The suspects will face possible charges in violation of Section 4, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The confiscated substances were turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Laboratory Service for confirmatory examination, while inquest proceedings are being prepared.

“This successful interdiction reflects our strengthened border protection measures and sustained coordination with our partner agencies,” said BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno who also commended the efforts of the BOC-NAIA personnel, led by District Collector Atty. Yasmin Obillos-Mapa.

“In line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., we remain firm in our commitment to prevent the entry of illegal drugs and ensure the safety and well-being of the Filipino people,” Nepomuceno added.
