QCPD Warns Against Fake Online Posts After False Quezon Avenue Robbery Claim

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has warned the public against spreading unverified information online after a viral social media post claiming a robbery along Quezon Avenue was found to be false.

In a statement, the QCPD said no robbery incident matching the viral claim was recorded anywhere in Quezon City following a verification and ground investigation ordered by District Director Randy Glenn Silvio.

Silvio directed personnel from Masambong Police Station 2 and Kamuning Police Station 10 to investigate the circulating post, which alleged that a robbery took place on a footbridge along Quezon Avenue.

Authorities later located the individual behind the social media post, who appeared before police investigators and provided a statement.

According to the QCPD, a thorough investigation, including CCTV backtracking in the area, confirmed that no robbery occurred at the stated time and location. Police said the viral post was misleading and unsupported by any official police record.

“We strongly remind QCitizens to be responsible in posting online. Always verify information before sharing, as false reports can mislead the public and create unnecessary panic,” the QCPD said.

The police district added that the individual behind the post will face charges for violating Article 154 of the Revised Penal Code, which penalizes the unlawful use of publication and the spread of false information that may cause public disorder or harm public interest.
