The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported that 55,590 families, or about 199,367 individuals, have been affected by the recent ashfall from Mayon Volcano.

In a message to reporters, OCD deputy spokesperson Diego Mariano said the affected population spans 124 barangays. Of the total, 1,444 families (5,459 persons) are currently staying in evacuation centers, while 26 families (85 persons) are receiving assistance outside these facilities.

Mariano added that the agency will release further updates if there are “significant or additional effects” from the volcano’s activity.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said it has already distributed more than P117 million in humanitarian assistance. This includes 71,153 family food packs, 7,634 non-food items, and 1,402 ready-to-eat meals for affected residents.

The DSWD also provided over P45 million in cash aid to 3,487 farmers and displaced individuals whose livelihoods were disrupted by Mayon’s pyroclastic activity.

Mayon Volcano, one of the country’s most active volcanoes, released heavy ashfall on May 2, blanketing nearby communities and prompting ongoing response efforts from government agencies.
