House to Push Measures Protecting Workers’ Dignity, Welfare

Filipino workers both in the country and abroad were honored on Labor Day for their continued role in sustaining the economy and supporting daily life across industries, from services to manufacturing and overseas employment.

At the House of Representatives, Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III and other lawmakers underscored that the steady work of millions of Filipinos remains central to national development, as many continue to face challenges related to wages, job security, benefits, and workplace conditions.

Workers were described as the driving force behind economic activity, with their labor keeping businesses running and public services functioning. Their contributions, especially those of overseas Filipino workers, were also recognized as a key source of support for families and a major driver of national income.

Despite these contributions, concerns persist over insufficient pay, limited protections, and precarious employment arrangements in various sectors. These issues have kept labor rights and welfare reforms on the legislative agenda.

In response, the House of Representatives, through Speaker Dy, reiterated its commitment to advancing measures aimed at improving the lives of workers. Proposed and existing bills include efforts to strengthen job security, enhance workplace protections, and expand access to better employment opportunities.

Lawmakers also emphasized the need for policies that not only create jobs but ensure that work is dignified and fairly compensated, noting that economic growth should be matched by improved living conditions for employees.

Calls were likewise made for the government and employers alike to match the effort and sacrifice of workers with stronger support systems, particularly in times of economic pressure and rising living costs.

As the country marked Labor Day, workers were recognized not only for their role in keeping the economy moving but also for their resilience and sacrifices that continue to shape the nation’s progress.
