The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is extending full support to a Filipino seafarer who sustained injuries during an alleged drone attack targeting the oil tanker ACER in the Persian Gulf on October 7.
The remaining 24 Filipino crew members serving on board the vessel were reported unharmed following the strike.
The DMW reported that the injured crewman was rescued through a joint operation by the Qatar Navy and Qatar Coast Guard before being transported to Hamad General Hospital in Doha, Qatar, where he is undergoing medical care.
Officials from the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Doha, under the direction of Labor Attaché Eduard C. Ferrer, visited the hospital to assess the seafarer’s recovery and deliver clothing alongside essential personal supplies.
The DMW stated that it will keep close watch on the seafarer’s health and maintain coordination with relevant agencies to facilitate his full recovery and eventual return home to the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the 24 uninjured Filipino crew members have traveled onward to Dubai, where the vessel is scheduled to berth.
The department continues its joint efforts with inter-agency partners to ensure the injured worker receives continuous assistance throughout his hospitalization in Qatar.
